Instructions

The VRAYforC4D Materials website is designed to be as easy and quick as possible for you to be able to upload files onto the website. Following are brief instructions on how to upload materials:

Firstly a template scene must be downloaded from HERE or from the "Attachment" section at the bottom of this page. This scene must be used in order to render out the materials with the correct background and lighting conditions for easy comparison between images on this website.

Next, in order to upload materials onto this website you must register as a member (click 'Create new account' in the 'USER LOGIN' section):

Then log into the VRAYforC4D Materials website with your new username and password. Once you are logged into VRAYforC4D Materials website you click 'Create content' in your user panel (top left links panel).
Once here click 'VRAYforC4D Material' under 'Create Content' - you can do this either in the left hand panel or in the content area as shown:

You will be presented with a simple page where you can now upload a material file:

You can name the file and add an image to show what the material looks like. There are 5 required fields to be completed in order to upload a material in this section:

  • Title
  • Description
  • Material Categories
  • Image
  • File

Title:
This is a self explanatory field and simply serves as the name of your material.

Description
Add a description of your material here. You are limited to a maximum of 250 characters. Try to be as descriptive as possible, for example you can state if this material is only relevant for a specific version of VRAYforC4D or Cinema 4D.

Material Categories
You must assign at least one category that this material belongs to. Control-click or Shift-click (on the PC) to select multiple categories. For instance a material such as 'Brick' could go into both 'Architectural' and 'Stone' categories.

Image
Uploading an image is another requirement. Image types and image size limits are detailed on this page and any image uploaded that doesn't adhere to the limitations will error (informing you as to the reason of the error in the process). Please refer to the 'IMAGE GUIDELINES' section for more specific instructions on uploading images.

File
The file is obviously the most important bit. After all you want to people to be able to use your scene file and materials contained within right? You are allowed to upload ZIP and RAR files as well as C4D files here. Obviously ZIP and RAR files are more useful if you want to include any textures etc.

Rating
An optional extra is the ability to add a 'Rating' out of 10 to your material. You can rate your own material and everybody else's materials on the website. To rate other peoples materials click the material to enter it's details page (showing the description and file to download) and then click on the 'Rating' widget near the bottom of the page.

Once you have completed all of the necessary fields on the page simply click 'SAVE':

Your material will then wait in a queue to be accepted by the VRAYforC4D admins before it is then published. Please be aware that this process can take some time as it is by necessity a manual and human oriented process.

IMAGE GUIDELINES
For an accompanying image with material that you want to upload onto this site please ensure that you render a square image format (minimum 450x450, maximum 1024x1024). This is essential as it will ensure consistency. Any images will automatically be resized and set to square proportions so as to avoid distortion of the aspect ratio. Please only upload images with a square size ration. The official scene file provided here is automatically setup to render out to a square aspect ratio.
